Like everyone else I'm working from home these days and trying to make the best of it. I have three laptops on a LAN network, 2 running Windows 10, running Windows 7 (yay for Mouse Without Borders). The printer is plugged into one of the Win10 machines and shared. The Win7 machine installed it and can print without issue. The 2nd Win10 machine is all over the map but largely unsuccessful.
The host Win10 machine, despite being set for passwordless printer and file sharing on this private network does not show up in either of the other two's Network tab in the File Explorer, however the Win7 machine was able to find the printer by \\Name\Printer and print without issue. The host machine of course prints fine. The 2nd Win10 machine was able to connect and install and print a test page using the same method but then reported the printer as offline.
Tried a test print from the Win7 machine with success. Tried to uninstall and re-install on the 2nd Win10 machine, only this time the \\Name\Printer came back as a bad name. I can't even resolve \\Name from File Explorer, though it continues to be successful on the Win7 machine despite not automatically showing in the File Explorer. I disabled the Norton360 firewall on the host machine but it made no difference. I've triple-checked the settings to no avail. I can successfully ping the host machine by IP and name even when connected to the company's VPN with the 2nd Win10 machine.
The 2nd Win10 machine has reported error 0x000004f8 on a couple of attempts but my google searching didn't lead me to anything I could decipher. I'm at my wit's end here.
