BSOD wmiprvse.exe, ntdll.dll, 0xc0000374

CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED stop code; laptop reboots intermittently, and I get exact same Event Viewer log below. Sometimes right after PC starts (or upon logging in), others before a crash (unsure; maybe always upon start) - but the error appearing does not guarantee a crash soon.

Below list is some of what I tried; what other options do I have? This seems to be a Windows error so I'm considering a complete Windows reinstall as a last option.

Troubleshooting attempted: (all terminal commands in admin mode)

  • memtest86, 5 passes (0 errors)
  • Update all drivers with Driver Booster; I think SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION stop code has stopped since, but could've been other steps
  • SMART scan on SSD where C: is (OK except maybe temperature)
  • WMI Diagnosis Utility is unsupported for Windows 10, and I don't know of alternatives; WMI is a commonly cited culprit for this error
  • Crash dumps ... don't work
  • System restore
  • sfc /scannow (nothing found)
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth (nothing found)
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth (nothing found)
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (completed)
  • chkdsk /scan

Additional symptoms:

  • On two occasions, same BSOD with this error log occurred three times in a row (<5 min intervals between)
  • Sometimes keyboard stops working after the BSOD, and persists unless I turn off PC, unplug power, and wait few mins; an external keyboard is able to work while this happens. Reinstalling keyboard drivers does not fix this.
