Error Installing Ubuntu Using WSL Windows 10

-1

I've followed the official installation guide provided by Microsoft which can be found here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

When setting up a new distribution (Step 7), the command prompt pops up and begins the installation but stops with the following error

Installing, this may take a few minutes...

WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0xc0000005

Error: 0xc0000005 (null)

Press any key to continue...

Steps I've done to try and resolve this issue include:

  • Uninstall Ubuntu app (downloaded from Microsoft Store)
  • Uninstall WSL 2 Update
  • Disable Windows Subsystem for Linux
  • Disable Virtual Machine feature
  • Reinstall & Enable all the above
  • Ran sfc /scannow to replace corrupted files (most of which get fixed but some are unable to be fixed)

At some point I was able to install Ubuntu but then had to uninstall the app and when I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS I ran into this error and all other Ubuntu versions also can't be installed.

Any advice/solutions are appreciated!
