E-Prime Error 0x000003f4: Unable to create DX Target Client

first time posting here. Some background... normally when making things in E-Prime, I do so at the school computer. With the pandemic I cannot. I finished making the experiment using remote desktop connection, but of course I cannot run the experiment remotely, so I downloaded the Evaluation version of E-Prime to my Windows 8 laptop. But when I try to run it, I get the above error with the message that it's unable to create DX Target Client, at line 2262 "Display.Open DisplayDisplayDeviceInfo".

I checked my direct x and it's version 11, so that should be fine... sorry, I'm not terribly good at this stuff so I don't know what to do... could anyone help me? I figure it's a monitor display issue, but I couldn't find a problem. Any help is appreciated!
