Unable to Launch existing .vdi image in Virtualbox

I'm trying to launch my existing .vdi image in VirtualBox but Virtualbox unable to attach .vdi image file, it throws failed to open the disk image file error. anyone please suggests some solution to resolve the issue.

The medium '/home/sysadmin/dev.vdi' can't be used as the requested device type (HDD, detected invalid).
