PowerQuery won't connect to MS Access Database

I have an excel power query set up in a worksheet that has been running for about 6 months. It simply pulls a table from an access database and is supposed to refresh when the workbook is opened.

Now I get an error and the table will no longer update:

Container exited unexpectedly with code 0xC000041D. PID: 14716. Used features: Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.

First I tried to refresh manually. Same error. Next I tried creating a new link to the table from the database. Same error. Next I tried to link to the table from the database from an entirely new workbook. Same error.

Clearly the connection error seems to have something to do with my DB. I run Office 365. Version 2006 (Build 12829.20000 Click-to-Run) Office Insider

Searching online I have only found similar errors for Power BI mentioned. None with a workable solution for me.

Does anyone know why this error comes up? I find these connection issues, of which I have had lots in the short time working with power query, to be a real hassle. It really cuts down on me wanting to use this as it seems it is not a stable solution.

UPDATE: I set up a blank new database with only one table and a blank new excel worksheet. From the excel sheet i then tried to connect to the database. Same error. There is something completely wrong with my excel version.
