My desktop wireless features (Bluetooth & WiFi) have spontaneously failed

Not exactly a coding question but I thought this might be the best place to look since I've rarely seen better logical thinking than the solutions offered here.

My WiFi and Bluetooth have stopped working on my Windows 10 desktop.

As of tonight, my Devolo Wifi USB dongle (802.11ac) is unable to connect to my WiFi. Also as of tonight, my USB Bluetooth dongle is seemingly undetected and my PC is unable to enable Bluetooth. However, my previously non-functional wireless card has started working after years of being useless.

To elaborate, my desktop came with a wireless card plugged into the MoBo to connect to WiFi. It always worked, until one day, it didn't. I tried everything I could think of, but it would never connect. So I bought some Powerline adaptors, which did work, but not as fast. Some time later, I purchased a Devolo WiFi stick which plugs in via USB and delivers 802.11ac WiFi. This worked immediately and my speeds were faster than ever. That was a month ago.

Last night, in what may be unrelated, my ISP had some issues due to weather conditions so the internet was down. Today, it seemed to be fixed. My phone connects to the WiFi with full speeds and no issues. My desktop, however, gives the "unable to connect to this network" error when trying to connect.

What may or may not be related, is that my Bluetooth USB adaptor is no longer working either.

Strangely, the wireless adaptor plugged into my MoBo is now working again. The same one which spontaneously ceased functioning over a year ago and prompted me down the Powerline/Devolo WiFi stick route. Now the OG card is working again. The speeds are pretty bad, but that may be a separate issue (if I set up a guest network, it's faster, but not as fast as before).

An interesting point is that I tried my mobile phone on hotspot, and the otherwise non-functioning Devolo USB WiFi adaptor can detect that.

Furthermore, whether I enter the correct password to the WiFi or not seems to make no difference when connecting to my home WiFi. In either case, it cannot connect to the network.

  • I've tried various USB ports for both the Devolo adaptor and the Bluetooth adaptor
  • I've tried the Windows troubleshooting tools
  • I've tried updating drivers in device manager but everything is apparently up to date
  • I've tried forgetting and reconnecting to networks, to no avail
  • I've tried installing Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® for Windows® 10 via Intel's website
  • I've tried Windows Update, but I'm getting "Error 0x80070002"
  • I've tried running sfc /scannow via cmd
  • I've tried dism.exe via cmd too

Edit: One other thing I've noticed which may be relevant... When I use the Devolo WiFi and try to connect to the home wireless, it stays on "determining network requirements" for a little while and then minimises. At this point, for a second I see the "safety eject hardware" icon pop up in the bottom-right before it disappears.
