The FastCGI process exceeded configured request timeout

We are not using SQL.

I know we have old versions and there is a risk but we can not upgrade now. We have a simple PHP application running on our own server and sometimes we get the message below when we try to access the page. The problem is "fixed" if we restart the server. What can we do to fix the problem for real without upgrading?

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS)
